The Chiang Mai University is a public research institution founded in 1964, with its strong suit being engineering, medicine, agriculture, and science.

The university is open to tourists, who can take a short tour within its beautiful campus to learn more about one of Thailand’s best educational institutions.

The university is comprised of four campuses; three of which are located in the city while the other in is Lamphun. Overall, they have a total land area of 3,490 acres. The campus also has 18 housing facilities for students.

The main campus is the Suan Sak campus; it’s located around 5km west of the Old City. The campus is 725 acres large, but it’s best known for its views of the Ang Kaew Reservoir, an artificial body of water where students, as well as visitors, can come to and relax or even enjoy a morning stroll. The reservoir was initially built to supply the school and is now a popular jogging trail.

The Suan Sak campus is home to the main administrative centre, faculties for humanities, engineering, science, and social studies; graduate school, political science and public administration departments, and all resource facilities, as well as the major sports facilities of the school.

The Suan Dok campus is located near the Suan Sak campus. It’s 110 acres large and houses the faculties for medicine and medical sciences, nursing, pharmacy, and dentistry. The Suak Dok campus is also where the Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital is found, which is one of the biggest teaching hospitals in the country.

The Mae Hea campus houses the agricultural sciences, as well as veterinary medicine, the Energy Research and Development Institute, and the centre for renewable energy, which focuses on biomass and biogas. The Sua Ban campus is the Chiang Mai University’s latest addition, which is found in Lamphun.
