Huay Kaew Arboretum

The Huay Kaew Arboretum is one of Chiang Mai’s most beautiful gardens.

It’s a popular jogging and running spot for the locals because of the open green spaces punctuated by tropical plants and trees that provide shade from the hot sun. Even if you don’t jog or run, this park is a great place to relax in!

The park also has some built-in workout equipment including pull-up bars, balance beams, sit-up platforms, and concrete pillars that you can use for step-ups. There are signs near the equipment that include pictures showing how to correctly use of all the equipment. Best of all, the park is blessed with fresh air since it’s far from the traffic of the Old City of Chiang Mai – so unlike the other running or jogging spots in the city, you won’t be exposed to many fumes.

There are also some vendors located by the entrance of the park who sell inexpensive Thai snacks and refreshments. A covered seating area with benches is also found here, ideal for visitors who just want to chill out or for joggers who need to take a quick break. This lush green oasis in the centre of the city is highly recommended for all visitors, even for just a few minutes.

After dropping by the Huay Kaew Arboretum, you can also visit some nearby attractions. A few minutes away from the park is the famous Chiang Mai University, which was founded in 1964 and is well-known in Southeast Asia as one of the best educational institutions for medicine, science, engineering, and agriculture. There are four campuses to explore, manicured gardens, and the Ang Kaew Reservoir as well. These are wonderful places to visit if you’d like a glimpse of local life.
