Huay Tung Tao Lake is a secluded getaway located about 20 minutes north-west of Chiang Mai and is a great place to relax like a local.
There are a number of huts surrounding the lake where you can get a hot tasty meal and enjoy a cold drink. The lake is a relatively unknown tourist spot and therefore is rarely busy during the week.

There are over two dozen restaurants around the lake where you can grab some traditional Thai dishes and they also serve beer and soft drinks. Price is cheap, with dishes typically only being around 40-80 THB and a beer around 65 THB. Most of the menus are in English.
You will also find plenty of vendors offering to sell you snacks as you relax in the huts, with vendors selling peanuts and fruit for only 20 THB per serve.
You can get to the lake easily via a scooter and there is plenty of car parking available. Entry fee costs 50 THB per person. If there is a group, you can take a songthaew (red truck) for around 300 each way or an Uber can carry 4 people and only costs around 250 – 300 THB.
