Mae Yen Waterfall

There are many waterfalls in and around Pai accessible by motorbike, but Mae Yen Waterfall is the only one that requires a trek through a jungle.

Mae Yen Waterfall is located around 7 km from Pai and takes around 3 hours to hike there (each way). The trail starts from the dam near the entrance of Wat Pratat Maeyen.

Mae Yen Waterfall, Distance & How to Get there from Pai, Thailand

To get to this waterfall, you need to head past the bridge in Pai where you will take the second turn and proceed on for about 7kms. The waterfalls are nestled in the hills with mostly flat terrain. The path that meanders through the valley cuts across the stream at various positions before you can get to the falls. As the path travels through the water at some points, it is best to wear shoes that can get a little wet.

Just before you reach the falls, there will be a steep section, but once you get to the top, the view will be worth it. Bring a picnic and enjoy the view on the rocks and have a swim at the base of the falls to cool off. There is no food or drink available for purchase along the way, so make sure to take a few snacks and plenty of water. Also, there are no toilets along the way.

Although the falls are at their fullest during the rainy period between November and January, the rain can make the trail very difficult to traverse as it becomes quite slippery with rain, so hikers are advised to trek during the dry season.
