Tad Kwan Village

The Tad Kwan Village is a well-loved cultural destination in Chiang Rai. Located 70 kilometres from the city, there are many natural attractions to discover.

The village is best known for being the home of the Mien Hill Tribe, whose captivating culture stems from their nomadic nature; having originated in Tibet and moved to Chiang Rai around 2,500 years ago.

Tad Kwan Village, Waterfall, Mien Hill Tribe & Address, Chiang Rai

This destination is unique because it’s one of the last unspoiled Mien villages in the seat of the ancient Lanna kingdom. Arranging a day trip to check out the village will immerse you in their culture, giving you a sneak peek of their way of life, and how the farmers live. It’s a great way to get out of the busy and touristy areas because the farmers live in a picturesque, rustic way that is very laid-back.

A nearby lake is said to be haunted, but perhaps the best way to find out is to see it yourself. Exploring the natural attractions nearby is best done either by foot or by taking an exciting buggy or ATV ride.

No matter which way you choose to visit the Tad Kwan Village, you won’t regret it because it’s a terrific way to see the Thai countryside in an off-the-beaten-path destination. The guides here are also knowledgeable and friendly; happy to share more information about what makes this place so unique. Be sure to wear clothing and shoes that are suitable for the outdoors, as you’ll tread through rough terrain while here.

When you plan a visit here, make sure to stop by the beautiful waterfalls. Visitors can swim and enjoy a picnic by the falls while taking in the fresh, crisp mountain air. Many of the locals have weddings near the falls because they believe that it’s an omen for good luck.
