Wat Fon Soi

The Wat Fon Soi is a small, quiet, and charming temple in Chiang Mai.

Like many temples in the area, it is designed using the traditional Lanna style, although it has a unique personality and significance all its own.

Wat Fon Soi, Buddhist Temple, Address, Hours & History, Chiang Mai

The incredible experience of visiting this temple starts when you come across the beautiful gate. Even if the temple is small in size, its grandeur is evident in all the little details; including the exterior. There are thousands of sparkling, golden carvings found on the red walls, which creates a magnificent contrast in the design and adds an imperial feel to it.

The temple is located on a busy main road, but once you enter, it will feel as if you are stepping into a tranquil oasis of prayer and meditation.

It also features an ornately designed main hall and a white square chedi. The picturesque grounds have been well-maintained through the years, with lush manicured trees that bloom frangipani flowers all year round. There are also large imposing naga serpents on the entrance; design elements from local mythology that have been added to protect the temple. One of the most fascinating aspects of the Wat Fon Soi is the beautiful wood carvings of Buddha and other animals of religious significance throughout the temple.

You’ll notice when visiting the temple, that the locals take great care of it. Visitors are advised to show respect when touring them, even if Thailand seems like a relaxed country. The most important thing you should keep in mind is to dress appropriately; for women, this means covering the legs and the shoulders, and for men, this means that no tank tops and short shorts are allowed. Always be quiet and mindful of others in the temple who are there to pray.

The temple is open to visitors daily from 6am to 6pm, and there is no admission charge.
