The fair is held at the Baan Tawai village, located about 16 km southwest of the old city of Chiang Mai. For this reason, it is not uncommon for locals to refer to the fair as the Baan Tawai Village Wood Carving Fair. This village is the focal point for wood artisans from across Chiang Mai.

The wood fair also features many other activities, including cultural performances, a woodcarving competition, a cooking contest, and a sale of handcrafted items.
