The Chiang Mai Airport is the largest domestic and international airport located in northern Thailand and services over 6 million passengers each year. The Chiang Mai Airport code is CNX.
With hundreds of flights each day, Chiang Mai Airport is the most convenient way to get in and out of Chiang Mai and is conveniently located just 15 minutes south-west of the city centre.
Chiang Mai Airport Domestic & International Flights, Taxi Price to Old City
The airport has two terminals, one domestic and one international. There are 15 airlines that fly in and out of Chiang Mai Airport including; AirAsia, Bangkok Airways, Tigerair, Nok Air, Cathay Pacific, China Southern, China Eastern, Silk Air, Thai Airways and Singapore Airlines.
The terminals are linked in one large rectangle building and all check-in counters are located on the ground level. Passengers then make their way up to level 1 to pass through security and immigration (for international flights). After passing through security, you will be able to purchase food and drink as well as get a foot massage, purchase souvenirs and buy duty-free alcohol.
For arrivals, there are ATM’s located in the arrivals hall as well as money changers. Chiang Mai Airport has a taxi desk located inside the arrivals hall which organises authorised taxis for passengers at fixed rates. It is advisable to only use this taxi service as you will be charged an inflated rate if you opt for a driver waiting at the exit.
The authorised airport taxis charge a flat rate of 160 THB to get into the old city. The prices are listed up on the wall and it is worth having your hotel name ready to show the person behind the desk. They will write down the destination and give you a receipt with the price noted on it. They will then send you to the taxi queue where you wait for your number to be called and then get in your designated taxi. Upon arrival at your destination, you then pay the driver the fee as agreed by the agent.
Red trucks (songthaews) and tuk-tuks are also an option, however, if travelling with more than 2 people, it works out about the same to catch a taxi which is also more comfortable (and air-conditioned!). Uber can drop off at the airport, but cannot pick up.

Hi, is there a post office in Chinag Mai airport? Myself and a few friends are all arriving with different plane and would like to know where is the best place to meet? Is there a place where I can purchase a sim/data card at the airport?
Yes, there is a post office in Chiang Mai Airport. The airport is small and so I would just wait outside the arrivals door after you have gone through immigration and baggage claim. You will all exit through the same door. So just wait there after you have passed through. There are seats and a number of money changers located at the arrivals exit.
Yes, you can purchase a SIM card at the airport, follow the many advertisement signs as there are a few local vendors.
Just note that you can get a better deal from one of the malls. I recommend AIS which you can get from Maya Mall, I think level 4. The staff are very friendly and speak excellent English. Just take your passport with you and they will be able to set you up with a tourist SIM or a longer term plan if you are staying a while. For around $20AUD per month, you can get around 10g of data and unlimited call and text.
