Chiang Mai SIM Cards

Travelling with a SIM card in Chiang Mai is the most efficient and cost-effective way to stay in touch with family and friends during your travels. They can easily be obtained throughout the city, with lots of convenience stores, mobile phone and gadget shops to choose from.

Best Chiang Mai SIM Cards AIS, DTAC & True Prepaid Data Tourist SIMs

Travellers can choose from many kinds of SIM cards that cater to your specific needs. The 3 major internet providers in Thailand are AIS, DTAC, and True. While they each have their pros and cons, their 3G coverage and signal are pretty much the same wherever you go.

In Chiang Mai, only AIS and True Move have reliable 4G signal especially in the more remote areas, which will come in handy if you intend on exploring the outskirts of town. If you need to have access to fast internet connections, AIS is by far the best prepaid card for tourists.

There are dozens of data packages to choose from, too. All three internet providers offer SIM cards that provide unlimited internet and data for a certain period of time, and you can choose from certain add-ons such as call credit. If you only intend to use apps, True Move is recommended because they have a data package that lets you use 14 social applications for 30 days completely free. These include Facebook, Instagram, Line, Twitter, Facebook Messenger, Skype, Viber, and more.

When shopping for a SIM card in Chiang Mai, bring your passport along as vendors require it nowadays; especially if you’re buying from official resellers. The best places to buy a SIM card are 7 Eleven or any official mobile or internet provider shop. If you want to save some money, avoid purchasing it at the airport.
