Visiting the attractions here are accessible from Chiang Mai since it’s located in the city’s outskirts. There are numerous tour agencies in town, as well as taxi drivers, who are willing to take travellers to explore the sights here.

Don’t miss the Wat Phra That Si Chom Thong; a majestic temple which is also one of the oldest in Thailand. It was built in the middle of the 15th century, and local legend states that Buddha visited the hill once; the site of the temple’s current location. It also houses a sacred Buddha relic inside the largest of the two viharns.

If you’re feeling adventurous, check out the Doi Inthanon National Park, which is where you’ll find the highest mountain in Thailand. It is one of the most well-known national parks in the country, known for its diverse wildlife, incredible waterfalls, cool weather, and several viewpoints. Fondly called ‘The Roof of Thailand’, the entire park covers 482 square kilometres. There is the option of making a day trip here, but there are also campsites and bungalows that can be rented for those who’d like to stay a night or more. The most popular attraction here is watching the sunrise from the summit – truly a magical experience.

Shopping for fresh vegetables, fruits, herbs, and spices is best done at the Royal Agricultural Station. They have a terrific variety of fresh produce that is also very cheap. There are many local restaurants, laid-back bars, and shops in town that are also worth visiting for a taste of local Chom Thong life.
