San Sai

San Sai is located in the heart of Chiang Mai province and an attractive getaway for visitors looking for a laid-back rural life that is far from the hustle and bustle of northern Thailand’s busy tourist areas.

There are dozens of terrific, unassuming restaurants, as well as lots of natural attractions to immerse yourself in.

The authentic local nature here is due to the absence of large-scale tourism, although you’ll occasionally come across a few other travellers. For this reason, anyone coming to the district will quickly assimilate with the culture. From coffee shops to a wide variety of dining establishments, be sure to come hungry because you’ll want to sample a little of everything while you’re here.

Aside from Thai food, there are also a couple of Western restaurants around town. The nightlife is also relaxed, with plenty of watering holes to keep you entertained from sundown.

For some shopping, head over to the night bazaar. You’ll find a wide array of inexpensive clothing and accessories, all for very reasonable prices. You can even bargain for a lower price, especially if you purchase two or more items from the same vendor. However, the night bazaar is enormous – you’ll want to spend several hours exploring the entire area to make sure that you don’t miss out on anything. But if you have quick needs, you can also check out the Central Festival Mall which is decked out with modern conveniences.

If you’re looking for some adventure in San Sai, it doesn’t get any better than the Chiang May Sky Adventure. It’s the first micro-light flying centre in Thailand and invites visitors to fulfil their dreams of flying over beautiful rice fields and Mae Kueng Dam with their friendly and experienced pilots. There is simply no other adventure as exhilarating as the Chiang May Sky Adventure; both kids and adults are guaranteed enjoyment.
